DULUTH - On Monday, some parents said they were surprised to hear that their child care center would be forced to close this spring.
The University Nursery School in the Federal Courthouse building in downtown Duluth is set to close in June.
It is closing because the federal government, which acts as the landlord, will not be renewing the lease.
A spokesperson from the GSA said the decision stemmed from a summer inspection that found lead paint inside the center.
"In its current condition, the space occupied by the child care center does not meet GSA's Child Care Design Guide standards for health and safety. GSA took necessary precautions to make the area safe until the end of the lease extension," a statement said.
A parent representative from the center said they were not notified that any problems still existed and said and they will still fight to keep it open.
