Huskies Hire New Manager

DULUTH, Minn.- June. 8, 2009- The Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League have announced that former Major League manager Terry Collins will take over as the Field Manager of the team effective Wednesday July 22.

Collins, 60, managed the Houston Astros from 1994-1996 and the Anaheim Angels from 1997-1999 while compiling a 444-434 combined record with the two organizations. In addition to managing in Major League Baseball, Collins also has 11 seasons of experience managing in the Minor Leagues, and most recently managed Team China at the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

"The Duluth Huskies are excited to bring in Terry Collins, as the entire organization looks forward to access his immense baseball knowledge and experience. His presence in the clubhouse and on the field will be a tremendous opportunity for our players to further their baseball careers, by learning the game from one of the best teachers around," said General Manager Craig Smith in a prepared statement.

Collins will be arriving in Duluth Wednesday and will manage his first game Thursday as the Huskies take on the Alexandria Beetles at 7:05 pm at Wade Stadium in Duluth.
